Get yourself some lithium grease (the colour is not important), I use it for most of the stuff on the bike. It exceeds what you need but you'll find it usefull on other parts of the bike. Wipe the hinge area with a clean rag and spray it with white lithium grease or a few drops of ordinary motor oil. Move the hinge several times to work the grease into the hinge. So look like the petroleum based lithium grease has leached into the plastic and altered it's original white nylon. I forgot to take a picture to show it here.
