WebRunning a little slower than goal marathon pace for the first 3 or 4 miles works for two reasons: (1) by running slower, you conserve critical fuel and energy you’ll need the last 10k; (2) running slower gives your body a better chance to absorb and take on fuel and fluids. Just like a car, the faster you run, the more fuel you burn.
