I have a strat with Duncan P90s in the neck and bridge and a regular single coil middle and it sounds great. A P90 neck pu is just a great organic sound and balances well with the lower power of the bridge pu.

It's to help balance it with single coils. It does NOT chug whatsoever. When you split the coils, yes it's half of 7.3k or so....
